Information Technology is one of the best emerging branches in the engineering education. Information Technology is a fast growing discipline and is full of rigorous practical analysis.
Information Technology refers to the management and use of the information using computer-based tools. It can refer to both hardware and software. Mostly, it is the term used to refer to business applications of computer technology rather than scientific applications.
Information Technology (IT) can be used potentially in every sector of the economy. Information Technology has been a dynamic sector in many developed economies and India has stood out as a developing country where IT sector has grown indefinitely. Information Technology jobs in India are the first choice career for the bright brains who are innovative. Hence, IT jobs in India are also booming with increasing demand for information technology professionals.
The IT industry has great scope for people as it provides employment to technical and non-technical graduates and has the capability to generate huge foreign exchange inflow for India. India exports software’s and services to approximately 95 countries in the world. Since all the engineering sectors need the basics of IT and so the IT students have a best future to settle down in any of the engineering sector.
Future of Information Technology :
IT will continue to gain momentum. The immense expansion in networking technologies is expected to continue into the future decades also. IT will bring about an improvement in the quality of life as it impacts on global competitiveness. Technologies that are emerging are Data Warehousing and Data Mining. They involve collecting data in normal research. Software services that are being used will go a long way.
Year of Establishment :
Sridevi Engineering college is established in the year 2001 and sponsored by Sridevi Educational society. The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 60 students. The first batch of students left with flying colors and made their own mark in the corporate world.
Head of the Department :
Mr. Ramakrishna.K received B.Tech in Computer Science and Information Technology from JNT University Hyderabad, M.Tech. in Software Engineering from JNT University Kakinada. He is Pursuing Ph.D in Computer Science & Engineering in the area of Information Retrieval in JNTU Hyderabad. Currently he is working as Associate Professor & Head, Department of Information Technology, Sridevi Women’s Engineering College, Gandipet, Hyderabad. He is also a member of IEEE, Association of Computing Machinery (ACM-SIGIR), Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), Computer Society of India (CSI), International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT), Academy & Industry Collaboration Canter (AIRCC), International Association of Engineers (IAENG), Member of Forum for Information Retrieval (FIRE) and few more. He is an Editorial member of International Journal of Electronics Communication and Computer Engineering (IJECCE) and Guest Editor of InterScience Open Access Journals (IAOJ) IJCCT & IJCSI. He is also a reviewer for various International Journals/conferences including IEEE, WARSE, IJML, IJCL, IJECCE, IJCSI, IJCCT, IJSWIS, IJAC International Journal of Computer and Engineering Research, International Journal of Computational Linguistics and few more. For his credit he has published 25 papers in International Journals and International Conferences. He involved in Organizing two National Conferences and three International Conferences as an Organizing Chair, Special Organizing chair, Session chair, conference chair. He gave couple of guest Lectures on “Research Trends in Information Retrieval and Data Mining Techniques”. He also participated and organized various FDPs, National / International level Seminars & Workshops. He guided 20 B.Tech Projects, 4 M.Tech and 2 M.C.A. Projects in the area of Software Engineering, Data Mining and Information Retrieval. His area of Interest includes Information Retrieval Systems, Information Security, Web Mining, Automata & Compiler Design, Operating Systems, Web Technology, Linux Programming, Software Engineering, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic etc.

Majority of the eligible candidates have secured Campus Placements in various National and Multi-National Software Companies including Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Motorola and Satyam. Many students who passed out are also pursuing post-graduate programs in India and many more have topped GRE, Toffel and pursuing their MS in USA and some have settled down in IT industry thru out the world. The department has encouraged the students to participate in sports events at College, University and State Level.
